Ideas for the booth
Fabian posted some ideas on -core about our booth, feel free to add other ideas as well.
- On LinuxTAG we had a huge Gentoo Linux "background" poster, I think it would be great if we could have it at FOSDEM (looks nice next to the Debian T-shirts).
- I'll try to make sure we have this poster for FOSDEM --Tobias Scherbaum 16:45, 6. Jan. 2009 (UTC)
- Got it, I'll bring it with me. --Tobias Scherbaum 20:44, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
- A laptop or computer that plays a Gentoo linux installation "movie" (like on LinuxTAG) would be great, just to show *something*. I don't believe myself in a ultra sparcstation just showing a blinking prompt as being worth moving around the many kilos it weights.
- Agreed, just showing some hardware because it is cool doesn't promote the distro --Tobias Scherbaum 16:45, 6. Jan. 2009 (UTC)
- I'll bring my Laptop running Windows Server 2003R2 and a Gentoo Prefix on Windows installation (anyone interested in this? :)). And i'll bring the CD images for the automated setup of all this with me, so if somebody _is_ interested, i can burn some CDs... --Markus Duft 07:57, 7. Jan. 2009 (UTC)
- The German (Friends of) Gentoo e.V. had some discussions with a guy that could produce small amounts of cups for a reasonable price in full color with whatever we would like. Perhaps we could get a cup or 10 to sell.
- This most likely won't work, I had a quick email contact with that guy back in august, but that's it. --Tobias Scherbaum 16:45, 6. Jan. 2009 (UTC)
- T-shirts. Long ago, when I was still an innocent kid, the Gentoo stand sold Gentoo (related) T-shirts. Does anyone have contacts and/or ideas how we could get like 20-30 T-shirts for sale, preferably initially paid by the Gentoo Foundation? I guess the most basic T-shirts with the Gentoo G-logo and GNU is not Linux would do.
- Problem with $Merchandising in general is that we (probably neither the e.V. nor the Foundation) has the necessary amount of money to print some hundreds of Shirts to get a reasonable pricing for them. If you're just ordering a handful of shirts their totally overpriced and you most likely won't make a small profit but with a higher chance have lots of shirts left after the event. --Tobias Scherbaum 16:45, 6. Jan. 2009 (UTC)
- Some (20-30) shirts for a reasonable price (buy for 10€, sell for 15€) should not be a problem. People constantly ask for shirts, and it's not a problem to bring them to the events we attend and sell them over the next.. say two years. I'd even make sure they get produced and shipped to Tobias. - Quoting Robert: "However, talking with them last week, they let me know it currently takes more than 4 weeks to produce those shirts, so I have ancelled that idea for FOSDEM." --Tobias Scherbaum 20:45, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
- DevTeam building. Previous events had special T-shirts for developers. I like that idea, and would be cool to do on FOSDEM too. If we get a handful of devs to wear them, it nicely indicates were the Debian booth ends, and Gentoo land begins. I for one would like it, in particular if we would get our "Team/Project/Herd" printed on it, so they'll be one by one print.
- Make it "Team Gentoo" Shirts or so, individual shirts for every developer is much more work ... if someone wants to organize this, please step up! --Tobias Scherbaum 16:45, 6. Jan. 2009 (UTC)
- Individual shirts ftw! I've been thinking about it for a while. My 2k3-Shirt is really worn out by now. I'll organize this one.. --Ian 20:08, 6. Jan. 2009 (UTC)
- Cancelled due to lack of time. --Tobias Scherbaum 20:45, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
- Media. Some people just like to have something in their hands. Would be cool if we could just have a bunch of CDs with a cool sticker on them or something. But also, since the price of USB sticks are reasonable these days, maybe we could somehow get a preinstalled Gentoo system on an USB stick (with logo), just for coolness (and sale)?
- The Friend of Gentoo e.V. has a printer which can print on CDs, the printer hasn't been used for ages - but I'll try figure out if it's still useable. We can print CDs on demand on our booth then. --Tobias Scherbaum 16:45, 6. Jan. 2009 (UTC)
- Propaganda. Just because it looks purty to have some paper with 2 columns and a figure or two that explains why Gentoo is so cool. Perhaps even mentioning who is using Gentoo (bigger users, like Hyves).
- IIRC diox made some cool flyers two years ago - guess we could still use them? --Tobias Scherbaum 16:45, 6. Jan. 2009 (UTC)
